here one moment, and then gone for ever
it goes so fast
this time that we have
but though you've made your exit a little earlier
than anyone would have expected, just a short while ago
you managed to live the life you dreamed of.
stubborn as they come
but with a willing ear,
always ready to learn another thing or two,
and to listen to another line of music.
we enjoyed the jazz clubs and the piano bars
in the 60s, as well as the political action
in support of those things we believe in,
back when it looked as if the whole country
was coming around to a new way of thinking.
but though you knew how to play,
you worked hard in your chosen profession, and
your faithful customers loved the way you worked
and trusted your judgment…
many of them becoming lifetime friends
and your home, that perfect refuge
where you cooked the food you loved
and listened to your music, read books, and
watched movies with family and friends,
was a perfect and favorite site to those
who loved you

it was my pleasure to know you and love you
and the adventures we shared
remain an important part of my life.
